Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker both agreed that Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was primarily at fault for Arsenal's second goal
The Reds missed the chance to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League after Mikel Arteta's side inflicted a second defeat in the league
A long ball over the top wasn't dealt with by Van Dijk, who let the ball bounce which allowed Gabriel Martinelli to outmuscle the Dutchman, before the Liverpool shot-stopper failed to deal with the danger
Alisson missed it and allowed the Arsenal striker to stroke the ball into an empty net.
Lineker
"I think the second one, (Virgil) Van Dijk could have possibly headed it clear on the first one but he let it go,"
"If Alisson stays in his goal there, Van Dijk can just knock it back with his head, can’t he?
"When he is rushing out, I don’t like goalkeepers coming out of their area, unless they are 100% sure they are going to get the ball first and it was a bit of a comical error."
Shearer, was in agreement but offered his sympathy to Van Dijk after Alisson failed to assert himself in the confusion
Shearer added
"It was a mistake all round wasn’t it?
"Van Dijk should have headed it anyway and should never have let it bounce. Once he has let it bounce, the keeper has made his mind up, once he comes out he has to collect the ball and he’s made his decision and he hasn’t got it. It was mistakes from both of them."
