Alan Shearer has agreed with Gary Lineker that Alexis Mac Allister was wrongfully sent off in Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Mac Allister was dismissed by referee Thomas Bramall, who was officiating the Reds for the first time in his career
after catching Ryan Christie on the shin. VAR officials reviewed the incident and decided to stick with the on-field call
Liverpool's new signing could not believe his eyes after seeing Bramall brandish a red card, which could also be said for Lineker.
Mac Allister is now set to miss the Reds' next three Premier League fixtures, though Jurgen Klopp hinted after the full-time whistle Liverpool may launch an appeal
Shearer took the side of Lineker as he struggled to come to terms with how VAR chose to stick with a red card being an appropriate choice
Shearer
"I think this is a terrible decision, an awful decision," said the Newcastle United great. There is no force at all. I know he is slightly high, but he is not going in with great force and power."
Sheared added: "For him now, to miss three games because of that, I think that is extremely harsh. I didn't think it was a red card at all and really surprised it wasn't overturned or at least told to go to the screen. Very, very harsh."
