Jurgen Klopp is happy Liverpool have shown "the right signs" this season after their disappointing previous campaign.
The Reds boss said he understands why people doubted his side after last season and losing key players, but has been pleased by the development so far.
When asked if his side are ahead of schedule after their summer rebuild,
Klopp said:
"I didn't think about where I would want to be in December, I just wanted to create a basis with the boys early on in pre-season.
"Then to become a real team, you have to overcome difficulties. We got them delivered with red cards and stuff like this, being 1-0 down in games and we could overcome that.
"That definitely sped the process up but I've no clue where we would've been without that.
"I'm just happy with the development until this point. We had to replace two of the strongest characters in world football, we did that with our new leadership group who are all experienced world-class footballers with a real understanding of team dynamic. It all helps. That's why we are where we are.
"I’m not sure if it’s a surprise. We had a season like last year, I can understand it putting some doubt in people's mind and we knew we had that kind of pressure to put that right - I'm happy we could show the right signs.
"Nothing's happened yet but we play much more positive football again, that comes with confidence, confidence comes with results, results come with good performances, good performances come with a good pre-season.
"Nobody knows where this will end up and all teams are probably only two injuries away from a real problem.
"This tricky period coming up now we are in the middle of already. A lot of football, a lot of opportunities."
