The agent of Manchester United winger Antony has claimed Liverpool were interested in signing the Brazil international.
The alleged interest came prior to Mohamed Salah's contract extension in 2022.
Liverpool star Salah is less than two months away from being able to speak to clubs outside of England about a pre-contract agreement.
Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also see their current terms expire at the end of the season.
In a wider piece about Salah's current situation in The Times on Tuesday, it was reported that Antony, was being considered by Liverpool
now Antony's representative, Junior Pedroso, has confirmed that his client was in fact the subject of Anfield interest before Salah eventually put pen to paper on a deal
Pedroso: “Yes, this story has a basis in truth. No (negotiations stopped as), Salah renewed his contract at the time with Liverpool, and that made Anthony's move to Liverpool impossible."
Since penning the deal on the Greek island of Mykonos in late June of 2022, Salah has gone on to score 65 times for the Reds, including 27 in the Premier League.
The 32-year-old has 10 goals in all competitions under Arne Slot this season and is now up to 221 overall for the club he signed for in 2017 from Roma.
In contrast, Anthony has found it difficult since moving from Ajax to Old Trafford, with the wideman contributing just five goals and three assists in his 56 Premier League appearances to date.
The 24-year-old has featured just twice this term for struggling United
