Arne Slot has insisted Liverpool will only make signings if they are financially able to after captain Virgil van Dijk admitted the Reds require reinforcements.
Van Dijk played 74 minutes as Liverpool smashed Sevilla on Sunday afternoon
The Reds look well set for the upcoming campaign, having beaten Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United as well this summer.
Van Dijk has called for new signings to arrive before Saturday's opener against Ipswich.
Slot is still yet to see a new player arrive since he took charge back at the start of June.
Van Dijk appears to be growing concerned at the lack of movement on the transfer front, while rivals such as United and Arsenal have been busy adding to their squads.
Van Dijk
I’m positive. I’m confident. I think that we should make some signings based on how long the season will go. I think they’re working behind the scenes,"
"I’m fully convinced and trust in the club that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible squad in order to compete in every competition that we are in. I have to trust and we’ll see what happens.”
Van Dijk has also seen his contract enter its final year, though no breakthrough has yet been made in talks.
Van Dijk added
“There are no changes at the moment.”
Slot is remaining calm. The Liverpool boss looks set to make Martin Zubimendi his first signing, but has insisted that the Reds will not be rushing to add reinforcements.
Slot
“As a club like we are, we are always looking if we can strengthen the squad but it is not so easy to strengthen the squad, if you saw both games today.
“I said many times before I inherited a real strong team,"
“If we can and if we think it is possible we will strengthen the squad but only if we can and only if we think it is possible.
“I am pleased, if you look at the situation. These players had to go to a holiday, a lot of them came back really strong.”
"And the ones I had from the start stayed fit for all the time. Yeah, pleased with the fitness level the team has, and also without injuries at the moment, and that is an important thing in pre-season.
"Not only an important week, an important year to come. We have to improve day by day. I think we saw today in both games a lot of good things but I can make a big list also of things we have to improve, which is completely normal."
