Thomas Frank highlighted Christian Norgaard's missed chance as the major turning point at Anfield
But the Bees boss also conceded the hosts won "fair and square" after goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah made it back-to-back victories for the Reds this term.
Slot's team now sit third in the Premier League table, level on points with Brighton and Manchester City.
Brentford captain Norgaard headed wide from close range to spurn the chance to level the game in the first period and Frank pinpointed that moment as the opportunity for his team to grab something from the game.
Frank
“It was a good game between two good teams,"
“I thought we troubled Liverpool in the first half, it was very even but then they scored a goal on transition when we were very close to getting a first contact at the front post.”
“We had a free header with Norgaard that could easily have gone in.
“It could easily have been 0-0, 1-0 or 1-1 at half-time. Probably the first half was the best we have had in four years coming here. I was very, very pleased with it.”
“In the second half we were still in the game, it wasn’t as even but we were still in it until they made it 2-0.
“We had a big chance from Nathan Collins and it was a great save from Alisson. But at 2-0 it was game over and Liverpool won fair and square."
Frank added:
“In the second half they created more and either we couldn’t keep up the level or they upped their level, which is something I need to look at.
“We did well keeping the ball around the Liverpool press in the first half, but after that there weren’t enough duels we won in the high pressure”
