Fernandes has explained how he was able to stop Nunez and Gakpo in the final minutes of the game against Liverpool
Fernandes
"In that moment, it was the moment we had to risk everything and had to play basically man-to-man, which was what the coach asked of us""
"He [Ten Hag] didn’t want me to be so deep at certain moments and [Harry] Maguire often asked me to drop back to help because there were [Cody] Gakpo and Darwin [Nunez]
"Two very fast players, at one point I had to jump into the middle, and other moments I had to drop a little deeper because my legs were getting tired, I was cramping up everywhere.
“I even got a knock off Darwin [Nunez] to help! But it’s whatever it takes to help the team. Antony ended up at left-back, [Christian] Eriksen was also at 6, [Scott] McTominay further forward.
"We were all giving everything we had to win the game.”
