24 hours before Jurgen Klopp could barely be heard above the din having made a precarious journey to the temporary media tent erected outside the stadium in Toulouse,

Caoimhin Kelleher was the one holding court in the same venue.

Kelleher

"Clearly I am still back-up at the moment but my ambition is to play as many games as I can, that's what I want to do,"

“It's really important for me in terms of building up that match sharpness and to get a good run of games is really important for me and my development."

Kelleher went on to feature in the controversial 3-2 loss to Toulouse as Liverpool missed out on the victory that would have secured their berth in the Europa League knockout stages

the Republic of Ireland international will again be between the sticks when Klopp's side look to finally finish the job with the visit of Austrian side LASK Linz

Kelleher's desire to feature more often this season could now be realised.

Alisson appeared to suffer a hamstring problem during the closing stages of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Manchester City

Scans will ascertain the extent of any damage, with Kelleher on standby for a run in the first team.

Against Toulouse, the Irishman surpassed his tally of appearances for last season with a fifth of this campaign

With Premier League games at home to Fulham and away to Sheffield United and Crystal Palace in the next fortnight, followed by the titanic visits of Manchester United and Arsenal either side of the West Ham tie, Kelleher would face the biggest consistent test of his Liverpool career.

the most amount of consecutive matches he has previously started came almost exactly three years ago when his Premier League debut at home to Wolves was sandwiched between Champions League games against Ajax and Midtjylland.

Kelleher had indicated during last season he would assess his future in the summer, given the dominance of Alisson

But speaking in May, Klopp was almost incredulous at the prospect of the Irishman departing. “

Klopp

I can't see... honestly, I can’t see Caoimh leaving," said the Reds boss. "It must be an extraordinary offer that I start thinking, I have to say."

Now the stage could be set for Kelleher to embrace a run of games and demonstrate if he truly can challenge to be Liverpool's number one.
