Carlo Ancelotti suggests the real reasons behind Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool departure

Updated: Jun 15

Carlo Ancelotti has suggested that the demanding nature of managing at the top level could have been behind Jurgen Klopp's choice to step down

Klopp is well known for his passionate style of play, often seen visibly emotional on the sidelines.

Ancelotti drew parallels between Klopp's exit and that of Arrigo Sacchi, who left his role at AC Milan in the 90s owing to the stress of top-tier management.

Ancelotti:

“I don't see any particular news, this has always been our job but the Klopp case is significant. The continuous pressure, the load of responsibilities become excessive burdens, the obsession takes over. It also happened to Arrigo Sacchi."

This aspect is supported by Klopp's own admission upon his departure that he was struggling with remaining energetic enough to consistently compete at the highest levels

Klopp stated: "It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.

"After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth and that is the truth."

Ancelotti also suggested that relationships eventually reach a natural endpoint. At that point, an exit is the best option to avoid a departure becoming controversial.
