Darren England Liverpool decision made after VAR shambles against Tottenham

Darren England will not officiate another Liverpool fixture this season but will not be sacked, according to a new report.

The Telegraph claim England has received support and backing from Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) chief Howard Webb

The 37-year-old was in charge of VAR, alongside assistant VAR Dan Cook, for the match, during which Luis Diaz had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside.

Klopp called for the match to be replayed. He said:

"The audio didn’t change it at all. Because I was not really interested in why things happened because I knew. I saw the outcome, I saw goal we scored and it didn’t count so I wasn’t now waiting for the audio and sitting there hoping I’d find out how it could happen or whatever.

“Yes, it was an obvious mistake and I think there would have been solutions for it afterwards. If not, I can say immediately, and probably some people don’t want me to say it, not as the manager of Liverpool but much more as a football person, I think the only outcome should be a replay. That’s how it is. It probably will not happen.

“The argument against that will probably be if you open that gate then everybody will ask for it. I think the situation is that unprecedented that – it didn’t happen before, I’m 56 years old and I’m 50 years in football and I’m absolutely used to, even if I don’t always deal well with it, wrong decisions, difficult decisions – but something like that as far as I can remember has never happened. That’s why I think the replay would be the right thing.”

England was subsequently stood down from his position as fourth official for Nottingham Forest's encounter with Brentford on Sunday

The Telegraph report they will not be involved in this weekend's round of Premier League fixtures either, adding: "Webb’s predecessor at PGMOL, Mike Riley, was keen to keep referees away from clubs where decisions had made them unpopular.

"While Webb wants to move away from that, it is unlikely that England will be in charge of Liverpool as a referee or VAR any time soon."

All eyes will be on the AMEX Stadium when the Reds take to the field on Sunday against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Anthony Taylor will be the man in the middle alongside Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, with Chris Kavanagh and Matthew Wilkes on VAR and assistant VAR, respectively.
