Diogo Jota went over to console Cristiano Ronaldo after his missed penalty against Slovenia -
Diogo Jota Won the spot-kick.
Jota ran at the backline with minutes remaining in the first half of extra time and jinked past central defender Vanja Drkusic
Ronaldo stepped up to take the resulting penalty but saw the strike well saved by Slovenia skipper Jan Oblak down low to the goalkeeper's left.
The Portugal captain became visibly emotional after the miss. But Jota was soon on hand to offer some words of encouragement.
Jota went over to Ronaldo, who had his head in his hands and a strained expression and placed his hand on the back of his neck as they walked back up the pitch.
Jota continued to stay in physical contact with Ronaldo as they walked, moving his hand down onto his back while speaking into his ear.
the gesture did not stem the emotions, as moments later Ronaldo was sobbing in the Portugal huddle during the half-time of extra time.
His former Manchester United teammate Diogo Dalot wrapped his arm around him and offered further encouragement as Ronaldo returned to his position for the start of the second half.
Ronaldo went first for Portugal and converted after a stutter in his run-up after going to the opposite side and finding the bottom corner.
Diogo Costa had already saved from Josip Ilicic, meaning this time Ronaldo had given them an advantage
Portugal would not relinquish that lead, with Costa saving again from Jure Balkovec and Benjamin Verbic, while Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva both confidently converted.
