Dominik Szoboszlai injury explained as new details emerge of problem that could keep him out of cup final

Jurgen Klopp admits Dominik Szoboszlai is a doubt for the Carabao Cup final this month

Szoboszlai had started every game for the Reds in the Premier League before suffering a hamstring issue in the 4-2 win over Newcastle

After making his first start since the setback against Chelsea in the 4-1 victory on January 31, the Hungary captain has reaggravated the issue

Klopp revealed that while the No.8 would declare himself fit for next week's trip to Brentford

The manager says he is not certain Szoboszlai will be cleared for a comeback in time for the League Cup showpiece with Chelsea on February 25.

Klopp

"I said [in Friday's press conference] if you ask Dom he plays against Brentford,"

"That is the problem with the injury. It is a muscle injury with a slight tendon involvement.

"The muscle is not big but the tendon is the problem and the tendon is not painful which means the player is like: 'I’m fine, let’s go.’ And he is obviously not used to getting injured with this kind of thing.

"He had long-term problems at Salzburg but pretty much since then he could play since then. He came to Leipzig with a problem but could pretty much play all the time after that. He is not the most patient person. We don’t know [about the final].

"If you ask him he plays the final definitely but I don't know. He will see. He is running outside. Some players I see running outside and i think ok they are back and then it can still take a while. We have to see."
