Cody Gakpo believes he grasped his opportunity after helping Liverpool get off to a Champions League flier at AC Milan.
Gakpo impressed on his first start of the season as the Reds came from behind to earn a 3-1 win at the San Siro on Tuesday evening.
The Dutchman, brought in for the benched Luis Diaz on the left flank, provided an assist for Dominik Szoboszlai
It provided a strong response to Saturday’s shock Premier League reverse at Nottingham Forest
And Gakpo said:
“Obviously, every player wants to play and I got my moment. Every player feels the need to take that moment, and I really wanted to show myself. I’m very happy with myself but especially the win.”
“It’s important. After the last game in the league we lost, we needed a reaction and that’s what we did.
“It’s a good start to the Champions League campaign and we’re very happy.
“We had more chances but they were dangerous in moments as well.
“Overall we controlled the game pretty good and it’s a fair result. It was key that we remained calm and stayed focused, that’s what we did.
“We have to thank our centre-backs for the two great headers and form then on we controlled the game better.
“We work on set-pieces before every game and we’re very happy it worked out.”
