Fernando Torres is set to leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season, having been head coach of their under-19s side since 2021.
Torres took the job two years after he announced his retirement
Torres recently returned to Liverpool so he could shadow Reds boss Jurgen Klopp as part of his continued development as a coach.
Spanish outlet Relevo is now reporting that Torres has decided to step down from his role with Atletico in the summer
The report states Torres 'believes that he has completed his cycle' with the under-19s and that Atletico now have a major decision to make over his future
Talks between Torres and club chiefs are reportedly set for the end of the month and the former striker could be promoted to coach their reserves.
However, current boss Luis Garcia Tevenet has done an impressive job with Atletico's B team and talks for him to become part of the first-team coaching staff under Diego Simeone have not materialised.
Torres certainly enjoyed his return to Anfield last weekend.
Torres
"I've had the opportunity to see how everything works from the inside, which is great
"I'm a big fan of Jurgen and his staff all around the AXA training facility, which is very different to when I was here, so obviously the club grows a lot and I have the chance to see why.
"There are many reasons but it's amazing to be here and to be able to meet with Jurgen, Pep [Lijnders] and all the staff to learn and try to understand the Liverpool way."
And when asked what he had learnt by shadowing Klopp,
Torres added:
"Many things. The main thing maybe is this charisma and this character of Jurgen and his staff with the players. He treats everybody like a family, which I think is the main thing.
"I really believe in the personal relations between the players, the staff and the workers and everybody involved in the club. It's the key of performing this way. I'm seeing from inside that they think the same way, which is really nice."
