'First place for us' - Agent claim hints at Liverpool transfer stance after early talks

Liverpool went into last summer initially wanting to sign a new centre-back and had been expected to revisit that stance 12 months on.

After seeing Joel Matip departs the club at the end of his contract, further reinforcements were anticipated

Club captain Virgil van Dijk turns 33 next month, after all, and remains out of contract next summer

Quansah might have enjoyed an incredible breakthrough season at Anfield, but Liverpool would be making a gamble if they didn’t strengthen their ranks further

It has been a quiet start to the summer transfer window for the Reds, with Euro 2024 and the Copa America both underway

Liverpool would like to sign Leny Yoro from Lille, with the 18-year-old available for transfer ahead of his contract expiring next summer. However, there is an expectation that he will join Real Madrid.

It’s understood that, for now, club bosses believe other areas of the squad require more immediate reinforcement.

That hasn’t stopped Liverpool from being linked with a plethora of centre-backs

Liverpool had been repeatedly linked with Feyenoord centre-back David Hancko, with the Slovakian being a boyhood Reds fan and his agent confirming they had been in contact back in January.

“As an agency, we are in contact not only with these two clubs (Liverpool and PSG), but also with others who are looking into David's situation,”

“The people at Feyenoord know that David Hancko will be sold, even in the summer, and maybe better than now.

“It would have to be one of the big clubs. He will certainly not go from Feyenoord Rotterdam, which is going to play in the Champions League, to a club that will play in the second half of the Premier League.

"It is special about David that he still wants to talk with the coach.

“We believe that in the summer he will choose and choose the best in terms of sports, just like it was with Sparta Prague, which he preferred over other teams. Likewise with Feyenoord Rotterdam, which he preferred over other and more financially lucrative offers.

"If he transfers, it will definitely be great because he will transfer to a big club. But even if he doesn't transfer, I think that David is happy in Rotterdam and nothing big will happen.

"I have to say that of all the clubs that are currently interested in David, Atletico is in first place for us,"

"Others are more like conversations, some are friendly because we've known each other for a long time, some are new.

“At this point, nothing has come up that would convince us that David is thinking about it more than Atlético. The second thing is that it is not yet a finished transfer.

“Both David and I like it, but they will decide in Feyenoord. It doesn't have an exit clause, that would be easier. The talk of 40-50 million is overblown.”

As things stand, it would indeed appear that beyond monitoring Yoro, Reds bosses are keeping their powder dry in terms of possible defensive recruits this summer.

While a centre-back might not be an immediate priority, they will need to strengthen
