'For Ian Wright to stand there and not pull him up' - Gary Neville thinks Jamie Carragher's Liverpool claim is 'unbelievable'

Gary Neville rubbished Jamie Carragher's claim that Liverpool vs Manchester City has been a greater rivalry than Manchester United vs Arsenal in the early 2000s -

Neville labelled City's success since 2018 as an "absolute demolition".

Klopp and Pep Guardiola's sides served up another Premier League classic at Anfield on Sunday afternoon

It means after 28 games, Liverpool sit second in the Premier League table, level on points with leaders Arsenal but trailing due to goal difference

Carragher eulogised the head-to-head games Liverpool and City have served up since 2018

Neville - who was part of United's league title successes in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003 - insisted the Red Devils' rivalry with Arsenal in the early 2000s was played at a higher level than Liverpool vs City.

Neville

"I mean Carragher's statement that Liverpool-Manchester City over the last six years is the greatest rivalry is offensive,"

"From 1998 to 2004, Arsenal won three titles, Manchester United won four. It was blood, thunder, quality. Everything you'd want in a rivalry."

"Over the last six years, Liverpool have won one title. It's been an absolute demolition. And for Ian Wright to stand there and not pull him up on it is unbelievable."

Carragher replied:

"Listen, I said off the pitch their's was a bigger rivalry, they all didn't like each other.

"He [Neville] was running down the pitch trying to get away from [Patrick] Vieira. In terms of quality, I think these are better games. 100%. They never, ever disappoint. "

Ian Wright added:

"You know something Gary, I'm sitting on my Premier League medal and I'm fine with it. I'm fine with all the rivalry stuff, it's fine. Let it go, bro."

Neville joked: "Wrighty, we'll have a Premier League winners' party the next time on Monday Night Football. He [Carragher] can leave"
