Gary Lineker has slammed the decision made by the referee and VAR officials to send Alexis Mac Allister off on his home debut
Making contact with Ryan Christie in central midfield, while raising his boot, Mac Allister was shown a straight red card by referee Thomas Bramall
This was then reviewed by VAR, who chose to stick with the on-field decision of Bramall.
Liverpool will now be missing the Argentine star for the next three matches.
Lineker could not believe his eyes and said:
"Mac Allister sees red but it’s a nonsense. Referee and VAR at Anfield having a poor day."
Echoing his thoughts, Michael Owen:
"No way on earth is that a red card for MacAllister. Yellow at most."
Liverpool supporters were quick to note the officials selected for this afternoon's fixture at Anfield earlier this week, with Paul Tierney selected for VAR and Constantine Hatzidakis acting as assistant VAR.
Hatzidakis was of course involved in a bizarre incident with Andrew Robertson as the pair made their way off the pitch at half-time
Tierney, meanwhile, has been publicly criticised by Klopp on multiple occasions
