Neville admitted Livepool’s title chances have improved

Gary Neville admitted that Liverpool took a big step towards the Premier League title as a result of Saturday's dramatic matches involving the division's top two teams.

It looked as though the Reds would end up dropping points as their game against Brentford remained goalless heading into injury time, but Darwin Nunez had other ideas

Arsenal kicked off against Aston Villa a short time after the full-time whistle at the Gtech Community Stadium, and after going two goals up through Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, Mikel Arteta's men were forced to settle for a point

So, while at one point in the day it looked very much as though Arsenal would have a chance to cut Liverpool's lead at the top of the table to just two points

the reality is that Liverpool now has a six-point lead over the Gunners and also has a game in hand.

Sky Sports analyst Neville admitted: “A big day in the title race and it has swung even further for Liverpool – there are some real dejected faces in the Arsenal crowd."

As recently as December 30, when Liverpool was eight points ahead of its nearest challenger in the Premier League standings, Neville was still sticking with his pre-season prediction that Arsenal would win the league.

Neville said

“Liverpool are massive favorites and they’re in great form, but there’s still a long way to go,”

“Arsenal have been through the mill last couple of years, they’ve gone to the wire, and sometimes when you win your first title, it doesn’t happen in the most expected way and things can happen.

“Things are going against Arsenal in this moment in time, and they’re hanging in there, but they’re the only team that can take it off Liverpool.

“I think Arsenal have got a resilience to them, they have got a back four that can hold it together and get through games, and I do think they’ll attack better in the next part of the season.

“I think they’ll hang in there, and if they can just get close towards the end, it could be that they can hunt Liverpool down. That’s what I’m hoping for!”
