Gary Neville reveals what Arsenal vs Liverpool result he really wanted

Gary Neville isn't a popular man among Liverpool supporters

A Manchester United legend, the former full-back has gone on to become one of the most high profile pundits in the country

but his commentary isn't always received well on Merseyside.

that was the case on Sunday when, on Sky Sports commentary for the 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool

Neville didn't appear to be best pleased that Arne Slot's side came back into the game to snatch a point

Neville has since explained that he really wanted to see a victory one way or another at the Emirates,

it's only natural to come to the conclusion that, due to his dislike of Liverpool, it was the Gunners he'd have liked to have seen come out on top.

Neville said:

"I really enjoyed it. I didn't want a draw, for obvious reasons. It's always nice to have a winner.

“But at half-time we felt Liverpool would come back into it, Arsenal did well in the five minutes before half time and needed to score, which they did.

"There was a lot of good attacking play, it was tough for the defenders. Four outstanding wingers on view. I wouldn't like to be a full-back out there.

"It reminded me of playing in these games when it's almost, you can't go through it without making mistakes. You need support because the players are so good."

Neville added:

"I think Arsenal can be really happy. During the week I didn't like the narrative of they have all these players missing.

“I was hoping that wouldn't influence the players in the dressing room or coaching staff. But they were really quite resolute.

“Mikel Arteta had no excuses. You cannot have the squad with the amount of money spent on it and then have three players who can't play.

“I don't think Arteta has rotated much, but those players who came in, it will give them confidence.

"I think Arne Slot will be disappointed in the first half but he will respect Arsenal's performance. But in the second half it was like the tide coming in.

“We said at half-time we thought Liverpool would get a goal back. It was made easier when Gabriel went off because it swung the momentum in Liverpool's favour. You just had a feeling it was going to come.

“I think he will be happy with a draw overall.

"It's a good weekend for Man City but these two managers will think they have strong squads. Just hang in there, stay on the shoulder.

“It might be that this time if Arsenal are going to do it they have to come from behind."
