'I can't just leave' - Jurgen Klopp addresses Germany role as Liverpool 'problem' revealed

Klopp has reiterated his commitment as Liverpool manager but failed to rule out becoming Germany head coach at the end of his Anfield tenure.

The Reds boss has faced increasing calls to take over Die Mannschaft in recent months

Towards the end of the 2022 season, Klopp signed a four-year extension which would keep him at Anfield until 2026, after his initial terms were due to expire in 2024.

The Liverpool manager has admitted the prospect of managing the best German talents would be a "great honour".

"The job of national coach is and would be a great honour - there's no question about that," Klopp was quoted via Sky Germany.

"The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty. I can't just leave Liverpool now and say I'll take over Germany for a short time. That doesn't work and the request isn't even there.

"If I'm supposed to do that at some point, then I have to be available and I'm not currently," he added.

"I have a responsibility towards the club. Basically, it's an interesting job. But I don't know yet whether I'll do something completely different after I leave Liverpool. I want to keep my options open."
