Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer continued their 'spat' over several refereeing decisions during Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Newcastle
The two former strikers disagreed on social media after Lineker expressed shock over Virgil van Dijk's sending off
Lineker called the decision "very harsh" before Shearer responded to tell him to "get to Specsavers".
Van Dijk's red card generated plenty of debate, with Jamie Carragher arguing that it wasn't clear whether Alexander Isak was denied a goalscoring opportunity
Shearer and Lineker discussed the matter again with Micah Richards on their new Rest is Football podcast, with both men refusing to budge with their respective views on the incident.
Richards admitted he "would have got the sack" had he been covering it live due to the amount of times he'd changed his mind about the incident.
Lineker: "We had a little spat, we had a little bit of fun on Twitter didn't we? Because I looked at it. He (Van Dijk) cleared got the ball, he might have got a little bit of the man on the way but he wasn't rash, he didn't slide in. He stood there and he just nonchalantly took the ball off him, I thought. But you came straight back and had a go at me.
Shearer: "I just think the referee made some big errors. He should have given a foul for Trent Alexander-Arnold when he threw the ball away and got a yellow card. He then should have got another yellow card for the foul (on Anthony Gordon)."
Lineker: "Do you think that first throwing the ball away was a yellow card? He didn't throw the ball away he just under armed it about five yards. I thought that was a pathetic yellow card."
Shearer: "It's in the laws of the game. Everyone knows that. It's happened before. The VVD was a clear red card. His positioning is all wrong, because of that he clearly wiped Isak out.
Clearly wiped him out. Then he took the ball after that. The referee got that one correct. If it was that bad a decision.. I bet they don't appeal because they've got no chance of winning. It was the correct decision. Actually, Liverpool defended better without him on the pitch.
Lineker: "Alan, can I ask you a question? Were all the bad decisions the ones that went against Newcastle?
Shearer: "I can't remember them!"
Richards: "I changed my mind about 50 times. It's a good job we had the time to wait to do MOTD. because if I had been doing that live, I would have been sacked as a pundit. I said there's no way that is a red card. I said that because he got the ball, and yes he touched him but in the letter of the law, the denial of a goalscoring opportunity, especially when you see all angles, it was a red card. But when I initially saw it, I thought it was soft."
Lineker: "When I tweeted I had only seen a couple of angles. I still haven't seen a definitive angle, where he swiped him, like some of the language used by the pundits at the time. "
