'I didn't like it' - Klopp reveals Pep Lijnders touchline message that inspired Liverpool surge

Klopp reserved praise for Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez as Liverpool moved three points clear

Salah scored twice and was assisted by Nunez for the opening goal as the Magpies were seen off at Anfield

Salah, who now has 18 goals in total for the season, is set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, and Klopp glowing in his post-match appraisal.

Klopp

"We should not be really surprised that Mo can change a game because he did it hundreds of times,"

"But it's just a really good example for the more goals you have the more you are used to missing chances. You just understand what you have to do, you just keep going, improving and using the situations and that is what Mo did.

"I got asked that question a lot of times about Mo scoring and Darwin didn't but it's just the game and what brought the game in the right direction was the first goal when Darwin squares that ball to Mo.

"I would say everyone in the stadium would have hammered that ball through the goalkeeper to try and make it happen but he squares that ball and it was to make it 1-0. Incredible. So, yes, it was a super game from start to finish.

"I said it now a couple of times and I didn't like it really but Pep Lijnders came to me and told me we needed Macca's (Alexis Mac Allister) passes, so we brought him on. Diogo too, it was a really good game from start to finish and when you have these options to bring on it is obviously helpful."

Klopp added:

"I love this game, I love the atmosphere. It was perfect, besides the goals we conceded, I could see it in Alisson's face that he didn't like it but we take that fact and we deal with it."

"It was a special game from Curtis to be honest, his high-press and counter-pressing. We all know how good Curtis is, he is incredibly skilled technically but he finds more and more direction in his dribbling, he gets out of tight spaces and his pressing meanwhile, he sets the level actually, how it should look. It keeps every player in the game, the counter-pressing was absolutely exceptional.

"A lot of times people tell me my behaviour is not great and it's good for grassroots football or whatever. OK, maybe the grassroots wants to play counter-pressing and they should watch the video of that, so that is really helpful.

"So many good performances, I can't remember a bad one to be honest, all really good but we had to be because you could see when we were not at 100% Newcastle were really there but we made it really difficult for them
