I don't buy Liverpool theory - Man Utd can't be allowed to get away with it again

The fact that Liverpool conceded four goals to one of the worst Manchester United sides on record shows you much they were off it on Sunday.

It was not one of the better performances of the season but the most hurtful thing of it all is how they let United off the hook at Old Trafford. When was the last time you saw Jurgen Klopp's side concede four goals?

They scored three and that should have been more than enough to win the game but they didn't see it through and it was a painful loss.

Our forwards have been brilliant all season between them all - look at the goals they've scored - but this was a day when they struggled as a collective.

They have still stuck three past United but they were there for the taking in the second half and the lack of a clinical edge has cost us.

They weren't ruthless enough, which is something you haven't been able to say too often. I just felt the whole team got suckered in by Erik ten Hag's players.

I thought it was one of the few times Klopp has been made to rue the injuries in his squad too.

Extra time really took it out of the players and I don't buy the idea that they got complacent, they just weren't totally at the races.

The absences of Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip hurt defensively but I thought Diogo Jota was a major miss up front too.

He gives us something different in that final third and he can really sniff out a goal. It was all too sloppy and really hard on the 9000 fans who went there and made all the noise on the day.

This might sound a bit like sour grapes but I've been watching Liverpool for 60-plus years and I can't remember a Manchester United side as bad as that one.

They are down there with the team that were relegated in the early 1970s and the disappointing thing is that Klopp's team haven't been knocked out the cup by an Arsenal or a Manchester City because this United outfit are not great, I have to say.

The last goal summed it up all. Liverpool were exposed on the break when they could have just tried to see out the game for penalties and now they are out of the FA Cup.

It's a special competition for me and it always will be but if there is anything to take from a bad day at the office then it will be the feeling within the dressing room at full time.

Liverpool have to use that as motivation for the next game now at Old Trafford in a few weeks' time.
