Paul Scholes has lauded Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as the Manchester United icon weighed in on the debate surrounding the two midfielders.
Both Gerrard and Scholes were England team-mates but fierce rivals at club level during their playing days
Throughout their career and the years that have followed since their retirement, fans of both Liverpool and United have battled to earn bragging rights in the debate surrounding who was the better player
Scholes was probed on the debate surrounding himself and his former England team-mate.
Scholes revealed that Gerrard was more of an athlete than he was and that he couldn't replicate the Liverpool number eight's heroics at Anfield if the pair swapped places.
Scholes
"I can't answer that... Gerrard's a great player,"
"I'm not saying myself, we're different, very different.
"He's an athlete [what separates them], he was more of a match-winner, but he was probably in a team where he had to be. I was more part of a team, he was more individual, I think.
"I wouldn't be able to do what he did at Liverpool, whether he could do what I did at United, I don't know. I don't see why not, I don't think I could do what he did at Liverpool."
