Joe Gomez says he is ready to "embrace" the challenge of playing full-back despite still viewing his Liverpool future as a centre-back.
Gomez has been used as a bit-part defensive option since suffering a season-ending patellar tendon injury in November 2020
the season prior, Gomez had started 22 games at centre-back
Fast forward four years and the 26-year-old has established himself as Liverpool's makeshift defender, deployed as a right-back, left-back and centre-back
Gomez: "I mean I'm probably getting to an age now where I'm not resisting as much," said Gomez of his thoughts on playing across the backline.

"I mean I'm probably getting to an age now where I'm not resisting as much," said Gomez of his thoughts on playing across the backline
"I think trying to embrace whatever position I play is probably more important for me.
"If I was to write on paper where I play, I would probably still write centre-back. But with time, you grow in appreciation for the game and just learning it.
"Trying to be dynamic and enjoy that position is something I enjoy as well. It brings different challenges and I enjoy that test.
"I think when I was younger I probably did resist it more and have a different outlook towards it when I played there. As I've got older it's embracing it and appreciating the challenge."
Gomez was also quick to stress the impact his defensive partner Van Dijk has had since being named as club captain in June.
Gomez said
"I think it would change anyone,"
"His stature spoke for itself but I think naturally there is more of a spotlight on it when you're captain. I think we lost a lot of key figures last summer. The likes of Hendo, Millie and Fab are going to be part of the history of the club forever.
"But seeing how he has taken it on his shoulders, he's always done that with all the expectation that has fallen on him with his achievements. But I think doing that as a captain and being the sole leader of this club is big, and it's hard to measure until you're in those shoes. So seeing him take it on so well has been really impressive."
