It's six weeks since Martin Zubimendi stunned Liverpool by U-turning on his decision to join Liverpool
At the time, it appeared a significant blow to new Reds head coach Arne Slot.
But with Ryan Gravenberch excelling in the No.6 role that appeared primed for Zubimendi, so far at least, that has not proved to be the case at all.
Liverpool sit second in the Premier League, with four wins from five, kicked off their Champions League with an impressive 3-1 victory over AC Milan
In contrast, Sociedad are struggling. They lie fifth from bottom in La Liga after a five-game winless run
Zubimendi is regretting his decision to turn down the Reds in order to remain with his hometown club.
And Glen Johnson, the former Reds defender, has gone as far to say Zubimendi could well be "kicking himself."
Johnson
“You can respect his decision to remain loyal to his club because it’s hard to turn Liverpool down when they come knocking,”
“Everybody would like the play for them, so I’m surprised he turned the move down in the first place.
“If he’s reportedly regretting the decision now, then I can totally understand that, especially when you consider that Real Sociedad are struggling this season in La Liga.
“He’ll be kicking himself knowing that he could have been challenging for the Premier League title, but instead he finds himself fighting relegation in La Liga.”
