I turned down Real Madrid transfer after what Sergio Ramos did to Mohamed Salah

Harvey Elliott has previously revealed he turned down Real Madrid in order to sign for Liverpool.

Comments from the Reds playmaker have resurfaced after Los Blancos launched a sensational January bid for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The full-back, who is out of contract in the summer, was the subject of an approach from Carlo Ancelotti's side on New Year's Eve.

The Reds rebuffed the interest from the Spanish giants, but the La Liga and European champions can enter pre-contract negotiations with the academy graduate from today (January 1).

Real Madrid have been forced to patch up their full-back department after a knee injury ended Dani Carvajal's season prematurely.

Liverpool have no interest in selling Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window but the threat of losing the 26-year-old as a free agent at the end of the season continues

Elliott made the move to his boyhood club in 2019 from Fulham, where he became the youngest debutant in Premier League history

The 21-year-old has made no secret of his affiliation with Liverpool, following the Reds with his father.

in a 2020 interview with the Athletic, the Englishman explained how he snubbed a move to the Spanish capital and the prospect of meeting Sergio Ramos after Real looked to convince him to join the club.

Elliott said:

"Yeah, that's true. I turned it down because of what he did to Mo.

"As a little kid, I just remember the buzz of walking up the steps inside the stand at Anfield, seeing the lights and the players warming up – what a sight,"

Elliott added on how he came to support the Reds.

"My heroes were Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez.

"I loved watching them. My dad was a big fan of Fernando Torres and we had a big poster of him in the house.

“Me and my dad always tried to do as many away games as possible.

“We had to tell a few lies to the school and my mum along the way! 'Make sure you get a nice hotel,' she would say. The place where we stayed in Kiev in this rundown block of flats was horrendous."
