Harvey Elliott is ready to use Liverpool's upcoming season to catapult himself into the England frame
The Reds star played 53 times in total last term for Jurgen Klopp, with 33 of those coming in the Premier League
despite ending the campaign as a player in form, he was overlooked for a try-out on the international scene under Southgate.
Elliott was a star of the Under-21 side that won the European Championship in the summer of 2023
Five of that victorious U21 squad have been called up to the senior side, but Elliott remains capless
But with the Three Lions now set for a new era after Southgate's eight-year reign came to an end, the former Fulham teenager believes he has a chance to force his way into the fold.
Elliott said:
"For me, it’s one of them, of course I want to be there but they have their certain ways and their players that they monitor and that they want to pick and that’s just what they do.”
"At the same time I was disappointed I had a nice break.
“The summer before I had the Euro’s with the 21s so I didn’t get a long break so it was nice for me to unwind and go and see family and chill out and get my head down for this pre-season especially with the new start I wanted to be fresh and ready to go."
The Liverpool midfielder has also backed U21s boss Carsley for the top job
Elliott said when asked if Carsley can step up to the senior fold.
“Absolutely”
“Lee is an unbelievable manager and an unbelievable guy. He is ready to step up.
"There have been a lot of big clubs sniffing around him and that is credit to himself and his coaching.
“Whenever I step on the pitch for England I just have freedom to enjoy my football. I feel like he is ready. They are conversations for them [at the FA]."
