'It's sad' - Micah Richards questioned over Liverpool decision as Alan Shearer left in no doubt

Alan Shearer has declared Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as the greatest front three to grace the Premier League.

The attacking trio began working together in 2017 and formed an unrivalled understanding on the pitch that helped the Reds to league glory in 2020

Mane's departure in the summer of 2022 brought an end to this special bond between the players

Ranking their top 10 partnerships to grace the English top-flight, Shearer opted for Liverpool's 2019/20 title-winning trio ahead of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez

"Firmino just dropping deeper and Salah running in behind. How many times did you see that? We all knew it was happening, but very few could stop it."

Richards and Lineker, meanwhile, selected Manchester United's triumvirate as their number one choice

Lineker said:

"I'm going to go Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez. It's by a fraction. It's a really difficult one as they were all great."

Rather surprisingly, Liverpool's 'SAS' of 2013/14 were way down in seventh for Richards, with Shearer placing them in fourth

Lineker said:

"I'm surprised you've both got them quite low down, is that because they didn't win anything?"

"They should be higher, but what did they win? Questioned Richards. "It's about the silverware, you know that. It's sad. They should have won more with that. They should have won the league."
