Jamie Carragher has explained why Wataru Endo's time as a Liverpool player might come to an end in the not-too-distant future.
Endo has entered his second season at Anfield following his arrival from Stuttgart last summer.
After just one season at Liverpool, Endo was the subject of interest in the summer - with the Reds rejecting a bid from Marseille.
The Japan international would go on to remain a Liverpool player despite such intense speculation surrounding his Anfield future.
Part of that uncertainty centred around Liverpool wanting to sign a new defensive midfielder this summer.
Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi was a concrete target for the Reds, but the midfielder opted to remain with his boyhood club rather than move to Anfield.
As a result, Liverpool decided not to sign any other alternative targets for the No.6 role despite being linked with several players in the transfer market
Carragher explained why Endo could be heading for the exit door in the January transfer window - or perhaps next summer.

"I'm not sure he's [Endo] the type of profile that Arne Slot looks for in that position,"
Carra added: "You talk about the No.6 they were looking at, and we all know that guy was Martin Zubimendi. He's a complete contrast to the type of player that Endo is.
"He's [Endo] done a great job for Liverpool since he's come in.
“If Liverpool would have brought in Zubimendi then there's a good chance that Endo might have moved on in the last transfer window.
“That might be something that happens in January."
Endo, who had only totted-up two minutes under Slot so far, made his first start of the season against West Ham on Wednesday night.
