Jamie Carragher caused a stir in the Borussia Dortmund mixed zone after their Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain
The Liverpool legend memorably fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking in the match, which Dortmund won 1-0, from the Bundesliga outfit’s famous ‘Yellow Wall’.
Working in Germany for CBS Sport, the 46-year-old admitted to having drunk ‘about eight pints’ as he stepped in front of the live CBS cameras after the game.
Joining Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel in the studio, pundits Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Alessandro Del Piero, along with presenter Kate Abdo, were in hysterics back in the CBS studio as Carragher proceeded to initiate and conduct an hilarious, impromptu interview with Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
“Jadon! Jadon Sancho! Jadon, do you want to join us?” Carragher shouted across the mixed zone
“Jadon, come on. What a performance. Get in the middle of us, get in the middle of us.”
Finishing the interview by asking Sancho if they could have a few pints together if Dortmund reached the Champions League final
Carragher was left aghast as the sheepish winger informed him that he doesn’t drink.
Carragher to Sancho
“I’ll tell you what, the only thing you haven’t done at Borussia Dortmund is go in the Yellow Wall, right?”
“Can you promise the Borussia Dortmund fans that you’ll go in the Yellow Wall?
“Because I’ve found a new family, I’ve got new friends. I mean they bought me pints of lager all night. Listen mate, you’d love it. Honestly Jadon, you would love it.
“Jadon, Jadon, me and you, Jadon, Jadon, if you get to the final, can we have a few pints together? You don’t (drink)?! Oh come on!”
While such interactions made for great content, Carragher’s animated antics seemingly did not go down too well in the Dortmund mixed zone.
Schmeichel
“We have been told to be quiet,”
Carragher, who respondedAre we being too loud? We’re being too loud in here or in the studio?”
Schmeichel laughed before telling the former defender: “No, in here. Whatever you say is going out in every interview in the world.”
Carragher continued: “We’re in a mixed zone here. We’re that loud that everybody is looking at us and telling us to shut up! But let’s just keep it going...”
Schmeichel later revealed.
“In all seriousness, he's in the sin bin,”
“Seriously, he's in the sin bin. He’s upset every person here. First of all, we were supposed to have Luis Enrique.
“And he came in and said, 'hello', and then he left because Jamie was wearing a Dortmund scarf.
“Then because we took Jadon Sancho in, the press officer from Dortmund got a bit cross with us because that was not on the list. We've been very naughty. And I hope it's been good content.”
Schmeichel would also tease how Carragher had ‘ruined’ his own relationship with UEFA as CBS tried to return to the studio.
