Jamie Carragher believes there are positives to take from Manchester United preventing the club from winning a possible quadruple.
The Reds signed off for the international with a dramatic defeat in the FA cup to their bitter rivals Man United at Old Trafford.
Carragher believes that a possible quadruple was always unrealistic, revealing that he had wished for the club to be knocked out of the cup against Arsenal in the third round.
Carragher
"When you’re saying, ‘stopped the quadruple’, no club has ever done it before.
"I go back to what Liverpool did a couple of years ago when they ended up losing out on the two biggest ones in the Premier League and Champions League,”
“I don’t think there was any way that Liverpool were going to win four trophies.
"I actually, at the start of the FA Cup run, I wanted Liverpool to get beat that game. Once the game starts, you always want your team to win.
“I was a little bit like that in the United game but then the way United won it and the way [Neville] was celebrating.
"I think the two-week break, surely that can help you slightly in terms of the league.”
Carragher added
“If Liverpool had gone through, I think they would’ve had a midweek game every single week if they get to the Europa League final
"They would’ve had one in the last week of the season between Villa and Wolves, that’s when the Fulham game would have gone [after being moved by] the FA Cup semi-finals."
"I’m trying to take the positives from it. I think in that season a couple of years ago, Liverpool completely ran out of steam in the last couple of weeks of the season.”
