Jamie Carragher has tipped Liverpool to win the Champions League in their first season under Arne Slot's management.
Slot was appointed as Jurgen Klopp's successor earlier this summer, after the German called time on a highly-successful nine-year reign.
Liverpool have mostly been able to keep his final squad together, with the club yet to make a signing under new boss Slot
Despite that lack of action on the transfer front, Carragher is feeling hopeful ahead of the new campaign.
He cautioned the Reds to resist the temptation to make the new season a year of transition.
Instead he believes Slot's men can go all the way in Europe, having reached three Champions League finals under Klopp's management.
Carragher
“We’re in a position where we’re all surprised and pleased that Liverpool had such a good season last year, off the back of a poor one, but with Liverpool we’ve got some of the best players in Europe,"
"We’re bringing a good manager in, and I’m sure we’ll bring one or two players in, and we have a big squad.
“The idea of Liverpool having a year off and letting the manager settle in is something I don’t agree with.”
"We did that when I played, whenever a manager came in it was a five-year plan.
“For me, this doesn’t happen at other clubs who have had success like Chelsea, Manchester United, or Manchester City.”
"You’ve got a new manager and of course you have to give him time to adapt, but I want us to challenge on all fronts, we’re Liverpool.
“We have a realistic chance of winning the Champions League, and that’s the pressure of managing Liverpool.”
“I’m sure the manager will be thinking that he needs to get top four, and it would be lovely to win a trophy – that would be a great season.
“I just want us to make sure that we compete for everything. We didn’t win everything under Jürgen Klopp, but we competed.”
Carragher warned that fans may have to remain patient in the early stages of Slot's reign, with the Dutchman set to bring in a new playing style.
Carragher added
“Arne Slot will have a different approach from Jürgen Klopp because I’ve seen snippets of that in the pre-season.
“It looks like it will be a more controlled build up, slightly more possession based,"
"I’ve seen people talk about it already, that he’s completely different to Klopp, but under Jürgen Klopp Liverpool used to have 60% of the ball and dominated possession.
“Maybe the games will be less end-to-end, maybe less exciting and more controlled.
"Even when you watched Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp last season there were things they could improve, defence was one area they could improve so having more control in games could certainly help that.”
