Jamie Carragher has revealed who he thinks was really to blame for Liverpool not winning the Premier League title in 2013/14.
The Reds were five points clear at the top of the table after 35 games, and boasted a nine-point lead over third-placed Man City.
However, Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who would ultimately end up winning the title, did boast two games in hand.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had put together an 16-game unbeaten run from the start of 2014, also winning 11 matches in a row
Such a run included a number of memorable victories, including a 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal, a 4-0 win over Everton, a 3-0 defeat of Manchester United at Old Trafford,
After winning 3-2 away at Norwich after downing City, Liverpool then let the title slip through their fingers
They infamously lost 2-0 at home to Chelsea where a Steven Gerrard slip gifted a goal to Demba Ba
the Reds ended up finishing two points behind the champions in second.
Gerrard is still mocked by rival fans to this day for the slip against Chelsea, with that defeat still highlighted as the reason why Rodgers' men missed out on the title.
Carragher, has pointed the finger at someone else in that Liverpool squad
Carragher
““I know he’s (Gerrard) my mate, but that’s why I always blame Simon Mignolet for that goal, Demba Ba,”
“Honest to god, he was so straight going through on goal, there was nowhere he could put it except through the keeper’s legs.
“He was running so straight on goal that I think it was difficult to score and there was nowhere else he could go.”
