Klopp has dismissed the notion that in-form Alexis Mac Allister is not being used in his "best position" at Liverpool as the manager hailed the midfielder's contributions this season.
Mac Allister was widely regarded as a more advanced midfielder when he joined the club for £35m
the Argentina international has been predominantly as a defensive shield in front of the defence
Despite having to get to grips with a new role at Anfield, Mac Allister has been excellent in recent weeks
Klopp rejected the suggestion there is a favoured role for the World Cup winner as he lifted the lift on what is demanded of his versatile squad

"I don't know where that comes from exactly because footballers nowadays can play different positions,
"There is absolutely no doubt about it and I had to learn that myself over the years and I don't mean as a player, I mean me coaching that you can use the boys and you have to get rid of these clear structures of who is where.
"Attackers have to defend and defenders have to attack, that is the best way to describe it. Alexis is just incredibly important for us and he always was since he's been here.
"The tactical side, the brain to do that says everything about him as a player because I don't think he is really bothered about [where he plays], I've never heard anything about that he said he'd prefer to play higher.
"We don't restrict players, we have the ball we all have to attack, we don't then we all have to defend.
"That's as easy as it is and whoever directly isn't involved has to protect, that is all. And Alexis is key to that and ask me or him in five years what is his natural position and maybe you will be surprised [by the answer]."

Klopp added:
"The numbers are 100% all right or even but Cody had a bit of a struggle in between this season and it was more my fault.
"We spoke about 'can Cody play in midfield?' Yes he can, in moments. Is it his position? I would say no.
"The offensive part of that role he can play but in the defensive part, things which he isn't used to cost him some confidence in moments.
"He was just a boy who was flying from the moment he got here and then it was not quite the exact same and these things will help him in the long term but in the short term it's not always directly to be seen.
"Now he is absolutely there and as long as we can avoid it I am not sure we'll bring him in midfield but [if we do] it is attacking and positive but he did not go under the radar.
"If you asked Cody he would say it is not the best season of his life but we all know how good Cody is, he is always a threat.
"He can be a threat in the air, on the ground, really good, super finish, a good nose for finishing situations, good dribbler, can keep the ball, plenty of super things we can use and will need."
