Jurgen Klopp wasn’t left too impressed with Anthony Gordon during the Liverpool target’s spell at Everton.
Gordon looks to be firmly on the Reds’ radar after talks over a possible transfer broke down with Newcastle.
Liverpool were close to a deal, but rejected a proposal from the Magpies that would have seen Jarell Quansah move in the opposite direction.
Talks could still be revived, although it now looks increasingly unlikely that Newcastle will need to offload the England international.
With deals in the works for Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to join Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively
Although Gordon has dropped several hints that he is a Liverpool fan, he has had his run-ins with the Reds in the past, not least during his time as a player at Goodison Park.
One Merseyside derby at Anfield in particular saw him receive a rather blunt verdict from Liverpool’s former boss
Gordon was left in disbelief after not being awarded a penalty during a 2-0 defeat for Toffees at Anfield in April 2022.
The forward even took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent his frustration after the challenge from Joel Matip
Klopp though took a much different view. The incident came after Gordon had been booked earlier in the game for a dive
the former Liverpool boss felt he should have received the same punishment after Matip’s challenge.
Klopp
"It [the second] was clearly no penalty,”
“He's really good but he's lucky not to get a second yellow. The first was not a penalty and the second wasn't."
Klopp’s comments were echoed by former Reds defender Jamie Carragher at the time
Carragher
“There's been a tendency of this from Anthony Gordon, in the few games we've seen him,”
“He's frustrated, he can't believe it... but that's crept into his game. He's somebody we've got to keep an eye on now."
