It is clear that Alexis Mac Allister cannot be the only signing that Liverpool makes this summer, and he won't be. The Argentine is an excellent start, but the Reds will be making more moves.
Among them will be another midfielder, at least, though two would be ideal, and there is also a chance that Liverpool brings in another defender
Khéphren Thuram appears to be one of the leading contenders for Liverpool in the middle of the pitch. The Nice midfielder, 22, has all the attributes required to improve Jürgen Klopp's side and provide a necessary injection of energy and quality.
Nice could do business for Thuram for as little as $44m (£34m/€40m), which would represent another bargain transfer move. That, though, will likely have to wait until after Thuram's involvement at the U21 European Championships is over.
But what else should be the priority beyond him?
There is an argument that signing two midfielders could be enough. If Mac Allister was to be joined by Thuram as a new addition, that would take the tally to eight given that there are already another six midfielders at Anfield.
Between Mac Allister, Thuram, Thiago Alcântara, Stefan Bajčetić, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, there should be enough minutes
Adding a ninth player, though, would get ahead of the curve, with Thiago out of contract next summer.
Signing another player who is perhaps a little younger and more of a project would make sense, with Roméo Lavia, according to Fabrizio Romano, one that Liverpool has considered
Gabri Veiga is one that is on Liverpool's list who would fall into a similar category
If Liverpool was to sign another defender as well, that would be the perfect summer of incomings to supplement its squad
It was reported recently by Football Insider that Gonçalo Inácio is among the names being considered, while Micky van de Ven is another.
In the dream scenario, Liverpool might sign Thuram, Veiga and Inácio, properly sorting out its midfield and defense ahead of the issues becoming larger. That would come to around $136m (£107m/125m), which should be realistic for an important summer rebuild.
