Klopp makes 'big transfers' admission as 'freakish' Liverpool situation explained

Klopp has shared his delight at Curtis Jones forcing his way into the Liverpool starting XI, off the back of seeing most of his season disrupted by injury.

The England Under-21s international has started the Reds' last five matches and has been one of their most impressive performers

Klopp is delighted to see the midfielder show his quality on the pitch again, as he explained just how difficult a season Jones has suffered behind the scenes.

"That he has now five games in a row is absolutely great," the German told reporters. "It didn’t look for a long time during the season that these kind of things would be possible because he had a freakish injury.

"We had to be super careful with him. Super, super, super careful with him. Even when he was back in training, he wasn't allowed to train a normal training week. That time when he came back in the team, we were still involved in European football so it meant we don’t train properly.

"That makes it really difficult for players who come back to get up to speed. It was really super difficult to organise.

"There was a moment when he could train again like normal, and it was pretty quickly clear that the sessions he had around our sessions, from a physical point of view, were really but good because he looked ready pretty quickly."

He continued: "Now you can see with Curtis, always the boys from the academy, people fancy big transfers. So if an academy boy plays good football, it is okay, but 'I would prefer bringing him in, bringing him in and bringing him in.'

"So I'm really happy for Curtis that he could show up now again. He is always only in the squad because he has real quality and now you can see it. He is good on the ball, safe on the ball which is super helpful, and defends extremely well which is even more important because they are all good footballers.

"He deserves that spell, definitely. He really deserves it. He has had a tough time to go through. It is hard if you don’t feel really injured but everybody tells you that you are. You are not allowed to do this and do that, do this and do that.

"That is really hard, especially for a young man. He got through this and is now in a good shape.
