Klopp makes Darwin Nunez admission and praises deadly Liverpool partnership

Klopp said he "could not imagine a better Sunday" after his Liverpool team beat Aston Villa 3-0 at Anfield.

And the Reds boss outlined his admiration for the performance of Darwin Nunez who had a hand in two of the three goals

Matty Cash bundled the ball into his own net after Nunez had hit the post after 22 minutes.

The Uruguay striker then assisted Mohamed Salah with a flick-on from an Andy Robertson corner

Klopp

"It was pretty much like this, the two sprinters of the team want to know where the other is,"

"I am pretty sure Mo said before the game to Darwin that when the ball is high 'please deflect it because I am on my bike.'

"The partnership is really good. I liked the lineup today, it's a bit of a problem in my job that we have to make lineups before we know what will work out but it worked out today pretty well. And I am really happy for Darwin as well.

"Maybe we should not forget now because [the second] was an own goal or whatever but the whole [chance] it was like 'oh my God! there is still a chance to get the ball!' I think 65 minutes or whatever it was was OK for the three boys, Curtis came back from injury and the boys gave it their all.

"The options on the bench too, Harvey Elliott is so close [to starting], Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo were there as well and I think it was pretty nice we could bring Wataru Endo on as well.

"We could see if he was there in better moments, he was aggressive, he passed the ball and besides Trent's hamstring, it was a perfect afternoon, the weather, my God! It's still early, 4.45pm or whatever, so I could not imagine a better Sunday."

Klopp added:

"It was a top game, the best for a long time, I don't know when the last line (defence) was that convincing. We had a few good games, obviously, especially towards the end of last season but it was really good.

"In both departments, offensively and defensively, you can't do one step less against this Aston Villa side because then you struggle immediately. But the early goal might have helped.

"I am not sure how it would've looked without it but we looked good. The mix in possession between control and direction was close to perfect, it's how it felt. We could use the formation today properly. Everyone wanted the ball and protected it or offered, so it was a top game, I cannot say differently.

"It was as good as could be because the opponent is extremely strong but we didn't let it happen today and that is a massive compliment to my boys."
