Klopp thinks the 'best thing' about Liverpool beating Nottingham Forest hasn't happened yet

Klopp believes the best thing about Liverpool’s victory over Nottingham Forest is that the Reds can still play a lot better.

While Klopp was pleased with his new-look side’s performance as they found themselves in a new position by controlling the game, he reminded them in the dressing room that there is still plenty of room for improvement

Klopp

“I told the boys after the game that the best thing you can say after a game like this is we played really well but there is still so much space for improvement,”

“I think that is obvious as well.

"The goals were fantastic. The patience we showed, the fluidity in a lot of moments, the creativity, the togetherness, how we connected with each other was really good."

“The goals we scored, we probably had 70-something percent possession, but the first goal was a counter-attack. Really good. The third goal was a counter-attack as well and the second goal was wonderful team play. Good, absolutely good game.

“We had a lot of strange games, let me say it like that. 10 men, fight back, turn it around. These kind of things. Controlling a game was not that often necessary.

“So 2-0 up is a situation and being actually completely dominant in a game. Staying in the game, keeping the ball moving, stay compact, don’t give them any kind of counter-attacks or corner kicks. That’s the moment.

"“You might remember three or four years ago, maybe longer, when we all of a sudden became slightly better.

"More dominant and were leading, then always came under pressure. 1-0 up meant nothing. Everybody thought, ‘Oh my god, 1-0, 10 minutes to go.’ We were all half-way saw the equaliser coming.

“That’s a situation you have to grow into. The boy show wonderful signs in all aspects really, but that is now something you have to learn as well again.”

Klopp continued:

“Key positions are obviously different. Occupied by different players in that time, pretty much everywhere. Upfront, midfield, last line. Only Virg and Trent, Mo and Ali, obviously. Four players and all the rest around is slightly different.

“So that is always space for improvement. Creating without losing the compactness is pretty much the idea behind. If you have to chase a game, it is obviously a completely different task. If it is an open game, different task.

“But if you are really in control, why shouldn’t you stay in control? The last five minutes before half-time, all of a sudden I think we were a bit too deep.

“They would chip the balls in, one vs one situation. We would win the one vs one situation, but anyway it was a corner. Or a throw-in, which is pretty much the same for Nottingham Forest.

“These are moments where we have to improve, clearly. And in creative things, you can always improve. That is always possible because the boys have a lot of potential and we have to use it fully.”
