Steve Nicol has launched a passionate defence of much-criticised Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
The forward was a constant threat for Liverpool as he exposed Villa's high line.
Nunez steered Andy Robertson's corner towards the back post where Mohamed Salah prodded in the third goal but his effort, which rattled the post, was turned in by Matty Cash.
In the second-half, he was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after firing wide from close-range but the opportunity proved to be difficult following a valuable touch from goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
On Sunday, the negative reflections surrounding the attacker continued which prompted a passionate defence from former Liverpool defender, Nicol.
Nicol on ESPN
"You’re worse than the guy who was commentating today,"
"All he kept saying any time Nunez did something was ‘Well he got 16 goals last year but he could’ve had more’ and ‘Oh, what Nunez have we got this week? Is it going to be the Nunez of last week?’
"I’m like, leave the guy alone! Seriously, I felt like smashing the telly. Every five minutes he was criticising Nunez. Leave the guy alone. He’s got two assists today."
