Liverpool have opened talks with Bayern Munich over a deal for midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
Gravenberch has been high on the Reds' wanted list for several months as part of an overhaul of Jurgen Klopp's midfield options this summer
While a deal is some way from being agreed, negotiations are under way
Reports earlier this summer valued Gravenberch at around £30m.
Bayern have now given Gravenberch permission to leave provided they can recruit a replacement before the transfer window closes on Friday evening.
It is understood the midfielder is open to a move to Liverpool and is keen to depart Bayern having seen his first-team opportunities limited
Gravenberch has made only three Bundesliga starts and has been restricted to just a brief substitute appearance this term.
Thomas Tuchel spoke ahead of the friendly against Liverpool in Singapore earlier this month of a need for a defensive midfielder, given he already has a plethora of central and attacking midfielders at his disposal.
The German side were linked on Wednesday with an interest in Fulham's Joao Palhinha.
