Liverpool receive huge Martin Zubimendi transfer hint as Real Sociedad call made

Martin Zubimendi has been named on the bench for Real Sociedad’s final pre-season friendly against Union Berlin

Liverpool are continuing to work on a deal to make the midfielder their first signing of the Arne Slot era.

The Reds are currently working to persuade the midfielder to make the move to Anfield, while Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is in negotiations over the structure of the deal.

Zubimendi has a release clause worth roughly £52m in his contract with the La Liga giants, but a transfer is not a foregone conclusion.

the 25-year-old reported back for pre-season training at the start of the week.

He trained as normal with his team-mates on Thursday despite confirmation of Liverpool’s interest, and was included in their travelling squad for Friday night’s friendly with Union Berlin.

And kicking off at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei, Zubimendi has been named on the bench against the Bundesliga outfit

Such a decision is not a surprise considering his international exploits, with fellow members of Spain’s Euro 2024 winning squad Alex Remiro and Mikel Oyarzabal also named on the bench

Liverpool’s interest in Zubimendi is well-documented, but it remains unclear if their pursuit of the Spaniard will be successful.

While they are working hard to convince him to join the club, Real Sociedad are reportedly also attempting to persuade him to stay put.

His place on the bench against Union Berlin seemingly confirms an agreement with the Reds has not yet been reached.

With Sociedad’s La Liga season getting underway on August 18 at home to Rayo Vallecano, time will tell if Friday’s friendly with the German outfit proves to be a farewell appearance
