Liverpool release new Anfield Road statement as plea issued to fans ahead of Everton game

Liverpool have pleaded with supporters no longer planning to attend this weekend's Merseyside derby to return their tickets as the club looks to offer solutions to its ongoing Anfield Road saga.

It was last week confirmed the upper section of the Anfield Road stand would not be ready for Saturday's showdown with Everton

A number of fans purchased tickets for the Reds' 2023 home fixtures when a bulk sale took place ahead of the season in July

Those individuals have now been left unable to attend as planned, with Anfield continuing to operate at a reduced capacity until 2024.

Liverpool are searching for people to offer up tickets for the game to those who have been denied the chance upcoming fixtures

A Liverpool FC statement read:

"Liverpool FC is calling on supporters who have tickets for the Premier League game against Everton on Saturday October 21 but are unable to attend to return their tickets to the club, to help out their fellow fans.

"Last week the club’s CEO, Billy Hogan, gave an update on the status of the ongoing Anfield Road Stand expansion project.

"It confirmed the top tier of the new Anfield Road Stand will remain closed for the rest of the calendar year, and the capacity of Anfield will remain the same as it has for the opening games of the season.

"Tickets had been sold in good faith, in the expectation that the upper tier would at least be partially open from the Everton game onwards, but that has not been possible.

"In order to try to accommodate as many fans as possible whose tickets have been cancelled, LFC has cut all ticket allocations and is asking supporters to use the club’s Ticket Exchange to return the derby tickets they no longer plan to use.

"This will enable the club to make those tickets available to fellow fans who have been impacted by the delay in the opening of the new Anfield Road Stand.

"As a thank-you gesture to the first 4,000 fans who return their tickets for this fixture to the club by 12pm BST on Wednesday October 18, we will thank them with:

  1. A full refund for the ticket returned

  1. where applicable keep the credit for the match, despite not attending

  1. £10 voucher per ticket returned, which can be used against retail purchases online before the end of November. NB: the voucher and redemption information will be sent to all fans who qualify next week
