The 243rd Merseyside derby went Liverpool's way as Mohamed Salah's double ensured a 2-0 win
What you might have missed were a series of intriguing subplots at the game on Saturday.
Pickford gets the message
It's customary for opposition goalkeepers to receive a warm welcome from the Kop when they head towards that end of the pitch on match days at Anfield.
It's a long-standing tradition that has paid mild tribute to hundreds of goalkeepers throughout the years. Jordan Pickford, however, enjoyed no such luck on Saturday lunchtime.
As the Everton goalkeeper went to take up his post at the Kop end for the second half, the England international was instead loudly booed by the home fans who clearly haven't forgotten his season-ending tackle on Virgil van Dijk three years ago.
Liverpool's fans have never really made any secret of their dislike of the Everton man but this was surely their strongest signal yet, delivered right to his face as the second half prepared to kick off.
It could even be a first that Pickford becomes the first opponent shot-stopper to be given such a frosty reception by the supporters on the Kop. Not that he would have lost much sleep over it all, mind.
