One area where Jürgen Klopp can still strengthen his options is in the center-back department, where currently the Reds need a backup option for Virgil van Dijk
With the Liverpool ace not getting any younger, and Van Dijk's form dipping at times last season, giving him some competition for the left-sided role could help the Netherlands international rediscover his form.
Given the fact that Van Dijk is set to turn 32 years old, he is inching closer and closer to an age where he will no longer be seen as a long-term option for the club, the perfect solution could be Levi Colwill.
The Chelsea center-back posted really solid numbers while on loan with Brighton last season, and very similar figures to Van Dijk as well.
Last season, as per Wyscout, only Van Dijk and Armel Bella-Kotchap won more successful defensive duels than Colwill among Premier League center-backs
for center-halves who averaged at least five aerial duels per 90, Colwill again ranked in the top five, winning 67.07 per cent of his battles.
To illustrate his composure on the ball as well, only Nathan Aké averaged more forward passes among center-backs than Colwill
So like Van Dijk, Colwill is a player who is a competent defender both on the ground and in the air
Colwill revealed his hero growing up was Liverpool's very own club legend and former captain.
Colwill:
"Growing up it was always [role model] Steven Gerrard, a leader. I was just amazed by him. I used to have pictures of him in my room, and I always just used to copy him before training or before even when I was playing football, I was always dressed up as him and had the same boots and that sort of thing and that was it.
"So I looked up to him and obviously I wasn't a midfielder but I always tried to have the same mentality as him, and it just went from there."
Colwill would be a difficult transfer for Liverpool to pull off given Chelsea seem adamant he is not for sale
Given his age and injury record, not to mention he only started 13 Premier League games last season, there would be a certain level of risk involved with a transfer for the young center-back.
But is it a risk worth taking?
