Liverpool urged to allow Mohamed Salah to leave because "he's not the same"

Liverpool have been urged to allow Mohamed Salah to leave the club, should that be his desire this summer.

Mark Lawrenson believes the Egyptian's Anfield future could soon be at an end if the club field another £100million offer.

Liverpool rejected a bid of £150m less than 12 months ago.

Salah has indicated that he expects to be playing under Arne Slot next term, but endured a difficult second half of the season

An injury picked up in the Africa Cup of Nations saw him miss a number of matches, in addition to prompting a club versus country dispute.

Salah was also involved in a sideline spat with Jurgen Klopp.

Lawrenson believes the 31-year-old winger, who has scored 211 times for Liverpool, will depart the club

Lawrenson

“I have a feeling that Mohamed Salah will go,"

"I just think that Saudi Arabia would be the logical place for him to move to.

“He’s not been the same since he came back from AFCON and you could see towards the end of the season that he seemed a little bit miffed – he just didn’t seem to be the same player.

"If Liverpool could get £100m for him from the Saudi Pro League, I think I would take it considering the circumstances.

“Salah’s been absolutely brilliant for Liverpool over the years, but he looks like he might need a change of club and I personally wouldn’t get in the way of that out of respect for him."

Lawrenson is keen to see forward Darwin Nunez remain at the club however.

He reckons incoming boss Slot will quickly have a conversation with the former Benfica star to inform him of his commitment.

Lawrenson added

“I’d definitely keep Darwin Nunez, because he frightens defenders,”

"He doesn’t score enough goals with the chances that fall to him, but he’s so quick and that helps the other strikers as there’s more room to play in.

"I’m sure Slot will have a chat with him on the first day and tell him he’s in his plans.

“If you come into that job, you’re going to try and keep every single one of the players that you think is going to help you – why would you not?

"You know what some supporters are like – saying he’s never going to score and stuff, but there are other sides to the argument.

“Slot will want everybody that he’s got and maybe a couple more, so they should definitely keep hold of Nunez."
