Martin Zubimendi insists he does not regret turning down a move to Liverpool this summer in order to stay with Real Sociedad.
The Basque-born midfielder had caught the attention of Barcelona, Real Madrid and the Reds, with Arne slot's side in the market for a holding midfielder.
The midfielder has a reported £51.5m release clause in his Real Sociedad contract, but the 2024 European Championships winner claimed to have unfinished business with his boyhood club.
The White and Blues have made a slow start to the La Liga campaign, with just two wins and two draws from their opening eight league fixtures.
It's that slow start which has prompted questions about Zubimemdi's future at the club, with Liverpool potentially still in the market for a holding midfielder.
Zubimendi said:
“It is true that there was a lot of noise. I went through uncomfortable moments. “
“The best thing for me was to stay here. Because of the press there is a lot of noise but in the end everything is easier than all that.”
“Of course I don’t regret it (after La Real’s early season struggles), I can’t think that after four or five games at the start of the season.
“I made my decision from within, I thought it was the best thing to do, the results don’t affect me.
“I see potential in this team, you just have to watch us train and I’m excited about having a good season.”
“In the end, like every market, things always come up. This summer it was my turn. These are things that happen that you have to deal with in the best way possible.”
"It is true that I was a bit uncomfortable with everything, especially because of the noise, and in the end I isolated myself and made the decision that I thought was the right one.”
