Michael Owen has spoken of his surprise at Mohamed Salah being substituted during his old side’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
Salah assisted Luis Diaz for the opening goal of the game before Axel Disasi restored parity eight minutes before the break
With 13 minutes of normal time remaining, Salah was replaced by Jurgen Klopp, along with Diaz, as youngsters Harvey Elliott and Ben Doak were brought on
Salah was far from happy with the decision made by his manager, as he tore off his protective tape and threw it on the floor in a rage.
Roy Keane ripped into Salah after the game, telling him to "sit down and shut up",
Owen sympathised with the Egypt captain and explained why he understood the 31-year-old's reaction.
Owen
I was surprised, yeah,"
"I get his reaction as well. I was definitely surprised. I thought Mo Salah played quite well.
"It was his assist for the goal. An amazing assist. It was his curling right-footed shot that hit the bar. It was him who literally was inches offside and scored; it could have been oh, so different.
"He was looking sharp. He is an absolute legend of the club. Consistently scores dozens and dozens of goals every season. And to bring him off, for a 17-year-old (Doak), yes, I was very surprised."
