The Egyptian star scored his ninth goal of the season in all competitions on Saturday
Salah's latest wonder goal pushed the Reds to the top of the Premier League, two points ahead of Manchester City
Despite being pivotal for Liverpool, Salah's days at the club are potentially numbered with contract talks ongoing
Yet Richards insists that it is absolutely essential for the Merseyside giants to secure Salah with a new deal.
Currently tying for joint ninth amongst the all-time leading scorers in Premier League history with an outstanding 162 goals
Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day, former Man City defender Richards highlighted Salah's excellence, despite the striker approaching his mid-30s.
Richards
"He's unbelievable, he really is. He's excellent. Past Robbie Fowler, chasing Thierry Henry.
“There have been talks about contracts being under review or not – they have got to sign him,"
"It is imperative that they give him a two-year deal at the end of the season. He'll be 33 in the summer, it will take him to 35."
In the midst of speculation regarding his future and without a new deal in sight, Salah has sent the Reds' fanbase into overdrive with his latest social media post
The 'Egyptian King' shared an image of him celebrating in front of the Anfield crowd, accompanied by a message that has sparked concern amongst the Reds faithful about his future.
Salah wrote: "Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there's only 1 champion in the end.
“That's what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like."
Despite being in his twilight years, Salah continues to defy expectations, having accumulated an impressive tally of seven goals and five assists in his first 10 Premier League outings this season
It's understood that Salah is yet to make a decision as he contemplates either remaining in Merseyside or considering a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League.
It's understood that the winger is currently inclined to stay at Anfield and isn't actively seeking a move away.
However, Salah is expected to push for a longer contract, contrary to the shorter deal that Liverpool would likely propose.
